When Anne, an actor, was recently at The Actors Fund for help clarifying her health insurance shift to Medicare, she asked Health Benefits Specialist Elizabeth Tripp if she had any recommendations for good doctors. Liz suggested Anne walk down the hall to The Actors Fund’s new Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts, which provides medical care for everyone in performing arts and entertainment in partnership with Mount Sinai. Having utilized Actors Fund services in the past—including recently seeing a therapist who helped her cope with her husband’s lengthy illness and passing—Anne took Liz’s advice, walked down the hall, and got an immediate appointment. “I couldn’t believe it. It was all so easy!”
Having long been nervous about dealing with doctors, she was pleasantly surprised by her visit with Dr. Ramon Pesigan. Anne appreciated his kindness, caring and understanding, as well as the personal service she received from the entire staff. “It’s great when you go in and it feels like you’re in the caring and personable hands of a country doctor who has 21st-century technology. It was the best experience I’ve ever had in a doctor’s office, frankly.”
Anne is also impressed by the fact The Friedman Health Center is staffed by Mount Sinai, and that Dr. Pesigan mentioned an openness towards both Western and Eastern medicine.
“As usual The Actors Fund takes care of each other in a way that everybody can learn from. It’s just basically community. I have had so many great experiences at The Fund… I try to give when I have, especially to The Actors Fund, because they help a lot of people—I see it—and they help me.”
