The Actors Fund Home, a residence owned and operated by the Entertainment Community Fund, provides the highest quality of senior care for residents who have dedicated a major portion of their professional lives to performing arts and entertainment
New York, NY (December 1, 2022) – The Actors Fund Home, a residence in Englewood, New Jersey that offers assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care and short stay rehabilitation for people who have worked in the performing arts and entertainment community and their families, this year received exemplary recognition from both the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and U.S. News & World Report. The residence has received a 5-star rating from CMS—the highest rating based on three criteria: health inspections, staffing and quality measures—and was recognized as a Best Nursing Home for both Short-Term Rehabilitation & Long-Term Care for 2022-2023 by U.S. News & World Report.
The Home’s 5-Star rating by CMS is based on both federal data and inspections by the New Jersey Department of Health. In New Jersey, there are 351 nursing homes and less than 10% of them have received the 5-star rating. Nationally, 2,800 facilities out of 15,602 (18%) have received the 5-star rating. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has made significant changes to their 5-Star Quality Rating System, examining detailed metrics such as COVID vaccination rates, staffing turnover, weekend coverage and many other new data points not previously evaluated. Even with the updated standards, the Actors Fund Home received the highest score of 5 stars, making the Home a gold standard for senior care.
U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Nursing Homes ratings, now in their 13th year, assist prospective residents and their families in making informed decisions in consultation with their medical professionals about where to receive short-term or long-term nursing home care. For 2022-2023, U.S. News rated more than 15,000 nursing homes on care, safety, infection rates, staffing and health inspections. For the first time, the Best Nursing Homes ratings featured a new measure on weekend staffing and another new measure on infection rates that led to hospitalizations. Only 16% of U.S. skilled-nursing facilities earned the “Best Nursing Home” designation this year.
The Best Nursing Homes methodology factors data such as resident care, safety, and outcomes. To calculate the Best Nursing Homes ratings, U.S. News evaluated each nursing home’s performance using a variety of data obtained from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Both short- and long-term ratings include data on consistency of registered nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs, and success in preventing ER and hospital visits. The long-term care rating also includes measures of whether a home changed ownership and how well they were staffed on weekends. The short-term rehabilitation rating also includes measures of a home’s success in preventing falls, preventing serious infections and making sure residents are able to return home.
The Actors Fund Home offers short-stay rehabilitation (open to the general public), as well as assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care services led by a top-notch, compassionate and experienced staff.
