The Entertainment Community Fund has received a generous $250,000 matching gift challenge donation from iconic trumpeter, A&M Records co-founder and philanthropist Herb Alpert, via the Herb Alpert Foundation.
Actors, writers and crewmembers are being hit by both the work stoppage and an end to COVID tenant protections, as MPTF president Bob Beitcher says, “We’re talking to people who are living in their cars, in some cases with their families.”
The Fund is helping film and television workers in need with emergency financial assistance to cover basic living expenses such as rent, groceries, health insurance, and medical bills, as well as mental health support.
Gore is making the donation to name the Entertainment Community Fund building for the EGOT winner — the culture center is part of a $135 million development that also includes affordable housing for artists and a young filmmakers program.
The Fund has received a generous $5 million donation from the 20-time Tony-winning and Emmy-nominated British entertainment producer, John Gore, via The John Gore Foundation for the arts complex of The Hollywood Arts Collective named after Rita Moreno.
The new board chair of the Entertainment Community Fund implores Hollywood to support workers affected by the work stoppages while expressing hope for post-strike unity: “We will move forward.”
