Investing does not have to be intimidating—and it’s definitely not just for the wealthy! The Investing Basics series at the Entertainment Community Fund is designed to help you demystify the jargon, develop an understanding of the world of investing, and begin to integrate wealth-building into your financial life as a creative professional.

  • Investing Basics 1 | Building a Portfolio - Learn the elements of a sound financial plan, including assessing your comfort level with risk, the basics of different types of investments, and ideas for creating a portfolio with limited and fluctuating income.
  • Investing Basics 2 | Later-Life Re$ources - Explore and begin to shore up the pieces that comprise your later-life financial resources as a creative professional, including individual retirement accounts, social security income and Union pensions.
  • Investing Basics 3 | Beyond the Basics - Open only to those who have completed Investing Basics 1 and/or Investing Basics 2. Pros, cons and tips involving the three “silos” of investing (regular investments, later-life resources and debt control). Content varies each time it is offered and includes extensive Q&A!

Join award-winning financial educator David Maurice Sharp, author of The Thriving Artist, and Rebecca Selkowe, J.D., AFC®, Director of Financial Wellness at the Entertainment Community Fund, for this informative and engaging webinar series specifically designed for creative professionals. Following each presentation, you will be invited to participate in a Q&A with the presenters, so bring your questions!

Part 1 and Part 2 may be attended in either order. Attendance at both parts is recommended but not required. View upcoming offerings here. Registration for Part 3 is open only to those who have completed Part 1 or Part 2; eligible participants will receive RSVP instructions via e-mail.
