New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) After school programs

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development offers engaging high quality programs for young people in all five boroughs of New York City during the hours they are not in school.

The American Camp Association

A membership organization of camp professionals who work together to share knowledge and experience to ensure the quality of camp programs. The site provides parents with camp advice, accreditation details, a camp locator and other resources and information at their parents page (CampParents.org).

Search for a babysitter in your area (includes night sitters) or post a job for a babysitter on this site.

Barnard Babysitting Agency

Parents who register with the Barnard Babysitting Agency can hire Barnard students as sitters and post job openings on this site.

MommyMixer

Connects busy families in need of part-time babysitting with high-quality college students via hour-long mixers, where mothers can personally interview a number of candidates and leave with a list of potential babysitters.

New York Nanny Center

New York Nanny Center places full time live-in and live-out nannies in childcare positions. The Center is licensed and bonded, and nannies are professionally screened, evaluated, and background- and reference-checked.

Day Care and School Resources

911Daycare

Located in Brooklyn. Provides 24-hour affordable and reliable day care. Services include but are not limited to emergency infant and child care, care for physically or developmentally challenged children, child care for injured and sick children, and after school child care. Some of their other services include in-home care, housekeeping and nutritious meal preparation.

Center for Children's Initiatives

Located in New York City. Promotes quality early learning, healthy development, and care for children from birth to school-age. They do this by providing parents with information and consultations, training and developing professionals in the field, and influencing NY State public policy. Their website includes child care referral to infant and toddler care, Pre-K, after school care and summer programs.

Child Care Aware

A national child care resource agency that connects parents with local child care agencies and resources. Provides information on availability of child care subsidies, choosing the right child care, licensing, accreditation and child care options.

Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (CCRRs) in NY

Provide a variety of services to parents and providers throughout the state. A directory of agencies organized by county. Parent services include assistance in choosing, finding and paying for child care, help addressing any concerns about health, safety, special needs, or balancing family and work time. Referrals to child care centers with non-traditional hours are available at select locations. Services vary depending on agency.

Children's Scholarship Fund - New York City

Provides partial tuition assistance for low-income families who cannot afford to send their child to private school. The Fund provides scholarships for children grades Kindergarten through 8th (children must be 5 years or older to receive scholarships). The website provided is for scholarships only available in NYC.

Committee for Hispanic Children and Families

Improves the quality of life for Latino children and families through educational and health programs, trainings and services. Helps parents locate child care (including providers with non-traditional schedules) near their home, school, or work, and obtain financial assistance.

Day Care Council of New York, Inc.

A membership organization of child care and family service providers, consumers and advocates, which improves the quality of child and family services in NYC. Their Child Care Resource & Referral Services Program (CCR&R) provides information and referral services to the public on center-based child care, family child care, programs for special needs children, before and after school programs and summer camps.

Head Start

A national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. The program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families. Child care services are available for infants, toddlers and preschoolers between the ages of 3 and 5.

Independent School Admission Association of Greater New York

A non-profit organization of independent schools including programs from early childhood through high school in the New York Area. These schools provide small classes, individual attention, highly qualified teachers, and a wide variety of classes and extra-curricular activities. Financial Aid is available at most independent schools, this site explains the financial aid application process.
