Visual Artists

The Joan Mitchell Foundation

Has funding allocated specifically for emergency assistance to painters and sculptors affected by natural disasters.

The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc.

Provides financial assistance to visual artists (painters, sculptors and artists who work on paper, including printmakers) of established ability with demonstrable financial need. Grants are intended for a one-year period of time.

After School & Summer Programs/Camps

21st Century Community Learning Centers Program

A national program that supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. Includes contact information by state, and eligibility requirements.

ExpandED Schools

A non-profit organization that enhances the quality and availability of after-school programs in New York City, New York State and nationally.

Provides listings of day, sports and overnight camps organized in categories such as arts, adventure, wilderness and special needs.

The American Camp Association

A membership organization of camp professionals who work together to share knowledge and experience to ensure the quality of camp programs. The site provides parents with camp advice, accreditation details, a camp locator and other resources and information at their parents page (

Babysitter/ Nanny/ Au Pair Agencies

Search for a babysitter in your area (includes night sitters) or post a job for a babysitter on this site.


Connects busy families in need of part-time babysitting with high-quality college students via hour-long mixers, where mothers can personally interview a number of candidates and leave with a list of potential babysitters.

Day Care and School Resources

Child Care Aware

A national child care resource agency that connects parents with local child care agencies and resources. Provides information on availability of child care subsidies, choosing the right child care, licensing, accreditation and child care options.

Head Start

A national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. The program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide comprehensive child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families. Child care services are available for infants, toddlers and preschoolers between the ages of 3 and 5.

The Parents League of New York

A non-profit membership organization of Independent Schools and families. Affiliates include over 250 independent schools, including early childhood programs, day schools and boarding schools. Their website provides a directory of all their member schools and notes which schools provide extra support for special needs students. Provides members with a variety of resoruces, such as babysitters, parenting classes, calenders of children's theater and tutors.

Support Groups and Services

Adoptive Parents Committee

The Adoptive Parents Committee is a non-profit parent support group comprised of volunteers dedicated to improving all aspects of adoption and interim (foster) care.

Tutor/Enrichment Agencies

New York Film Academy

Offers workshops, classes and summer programs for filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, producers and animators.

On Location Education

A national on-set teaching service for young performers.

Sylvan Learning

A national private tutoring agency for youth in grades K-12. Subjects include reading, study skills, math, writing, state test preparation and SAT/ACT preparation.
